In todays society people are becoming more reliant on the system which is impacting both their health and overall public health. This reliance often leads to a mindset where individuals tend to leave their health responsibilities in the hands of professionals. Such dependency can worsen issues, related to diseases and mental health conditions as patients may overlook measures that are essential for staying healthy.

To address this overreliance on healthcare the importance of strategies has come to the forefront. By adopting self-help practices individuals can take charge of their health. Make lifestyle changes like exercising eating well and managing stress. Research shows that programs focused on self-management can empower patients and improve health outcomes By promoting a culture of selfcare people can ease the strain on systems while encouraging an approach, to their well being.

As a young boy growing up in Nassau Bahamas, there wasn’t such a heavy reliance on the healthcare system as we now see today. Families back then were much more self-reliant then than they are today. In my home. if there was an illness or ailment, my mother would look in her trusty book of natural remedies, and find the appropriate treatment regimen for us whenever needed. If we had diarrhea, she would give us tea made from the bark of the guava tree, which stopped the diarrhea in its track. For fevers, cool baths and a tea made from banana and fever grass leaves did the trick. For a boil, mom would bring that boil to a head with a paste made from “bird-pepper” leaf. Today, people flock to the public clinics, and hospitals for these very same issues.
